ThoughtWorks

Welcome to thoughtworks; home of entrepreneurs. The Thoughtworks community just got launched barely 72 hours and I am hoping on 500 members before the end of this year. Here, we get entrepreneurial news, tips and resources.

As the week goes on, we will be creating different forums on the community on different issues; funding, idea generation, blogging, exporting, and even shameless advertising! I believe it will be a fun & learning time for us.

Thanks for being on the road less travelled. May your journey be rough (and rewarding)?

hurray to the new entrepreneurial revolution in africa!!!!!!!!

greetings fellow africans!

yes, it is now here once more. the new motto is , "determine your value , determine your salary. "
the message is that the bosses must be taken to the cleaners. the good can stay but the bad must go!
if one is still employed one must establish a " go to hell fund ! " for the boss.
someone has been eating our lunch and we want it back now !
say no to being treated like a 5 year old kid by your superiors!
the call to action is : become your own boss, tailor make your own working conditions and determine your own salary !

its time to fumigate and sanitise!
the army is charging, dont be left behind !!!!!!!

3 cheers to phenominal speaking !!!!!

the name is walter chimene. the age is 23. the country is zimbabwe. the company is called eloquent solutions. it is a phenominal speaking consultancy. phenominal speaking is different from motivational speaking. it is the art of putting your genius or most brilliant ideas into words and dazzling ! i came up with the concept after going through a 10 year mentorship programme which was run by the united nations. it was called the world class performance mentorship programme. the concept of phenominal speaking was inspired by the roots of african wisdom which state that the transmission of african wisdom has always been better done through oration and not sacred texts. the role of the concept in africa is to enhance the transmission of african knowledge management systems so that african geniuses can be able to put their genius into words and dazzle!
many have asked me why i have been quiet. the answer lies in the understanding of african heritage cycles of time management eg the ones that our forefathers used when they hunted or went to war!
my email is walter chimene@yahoo.co.uk

thinkers only please!

the continent finds itself at a time when the mood of the need to have its young people shape and sharpen its destiny. there is no doubt that we need african solutions to african problems. the issue i find critical is that young africans must show that they are strategic thinkers. as a way forward we need thinkers who come up with new input only . the bootlickers, cheerleaders, looters and trooters must stay behind the touch line. we need young africans who can stand out and boldly speak of the achievements they have made and not shy away under the auspices of being humble. if all of us become humble and keep quiet, then where will the next generation of leaders in africa find their inspiration. i have to say that i went through a 10 year mentorship programme which was run by the united nations. it was called the world class performance mentorship programme. in short. it helped me to understand that i am an oratory genius and showed me what to do with my genius.i am an ambassodor for entrepreneurship in africa. i am selling the motto of the new entrepreneurial revolution in africa. the motto reads, determine your value, determine your salary.other achievers must arise. the army is charging !

USA Today writes about Kase Lawal of CAMAC International:

This particular entrepreneur’s story has become even more relevant for me today as I think about what model of entrepreneurship I plan to pursue. It is evident that one has to find a way to develop a unique competitive advantage. A melding of the unique knowledge and understanding of the US and Africa Markets. Kase was able to leverage both worlds to build a global business. The US gave him access to low cost financing and technical expertise. Africa gave him access to rich resources. He couldn’t do one without the other. I know everyone’s story is different and things may have changed but this model is definitely worth considering.

MyC4 has some money for us

MyC4 is an online community which provides a dynamic platform to create and support new enterprises and commercial innovation in Africa. The vision of the site is to end poverty, and MyC4 has a strict selection process which identifies entrepreneurs looking to develop companies that provide healthy economic prospects for growth. The screened entrepreneurs then post their ideas labelled as an Opportunity online so that visitors to the MyC4 website can bid on (to invest in) any open Opportunity on MyC4. The bidding process is based on a ’Dutch’ auction which basically means, the more people that are interested in investing, the more favourable the terms (e.g. interest rate) become for the African business.

Branding is everything

How would you feel if you were served by a filthy waiter who looked as if he resided in a dumpsite? On the other hand imagine a young well dressed waitress coming to serve you in the nicest uniform you've ever seen...

Branding is central to successful foundation building in business and goes beyond attaining richies; it creates wealth and unforgettable exposure for your business. This is where logo design and the very layout of your letterheads and business cards matters more than you would have ever thought.

What would Nike be without the swoosh logo; or apple without the "apple" To stand out and become a global player your logos need to break across borders and be universally understandable as cluttered or over localised logowork can cause confusion. Many Chinese brands are struggling in this department however African entrepreneurs can retain their local names and heritage while playing in the big league. All that has to be done is to align your branding with globally understandable interfaces.

My personal passion is brand identity and l am available for logo design and brand identity info. email me on clintonafrica@gmail.com

Online Payments in Nigeria

Question: Did paypal really blacklist Nigeria? I have been catching up with old posts on blogs that give me the benefit of the doubt that it might be our own central bank at work. Think about it, why can't we have MasterCard/VisaCard in Naira?

Any one with tips on how to get Paypal here in Nigeria?

Guys, try www.Softpurse.com as a cheaper, better and wholistic alternative to N150k Interswitch.
